Sync Your Cycle to the Moon

Created to Sync

Our bodies are up to 75% water. The moon's phases and light are powerful enough to move the oceans; of course, the moon has the power to influence our menstrual cycle.

This happens naturally when we're connected more to nature than to the light, hormones, and energetic disruptors of the world. Many of us are missing out on this vital connection to God's creation and how our mind, spirit, and body can be more at peace with renewed health when we sync with the nature that God provided for us.

The Benefits of a Balanced Cycle

When I sync my cycle with the moon's phases, my periods are more regular; my hormones are more balanced, I have fewer PMS issues, and an increased sense of peace, well-being, and strength.

Balanced hormone levels reduce inflammation while increasing metabolism, muscle activation, and brain clarity, which influences energy levels, performance, and overall health.

The Red Tent

Historically, it was expected that women would take time off during their period (the days within their monthly cycle that they bleed).

Because human lives were tied closely to our natural surroundings, women would have their period simultaneously. It was naturally at the darkest time of the month, during the new moon (when there's no moon).

There was a location known as the Red Tent for this sacred time, where the women would gather during their days of bleeding. It was a quiet time centered on rest and inward reflection.

A few women, those who chose not to pursue childbirth at that time, would sync their cycle to the Full Moon instead. These women were known as healers, the ones who cared and tended to the needs of the other women.

White Moon Cycle

Most women naturally cycle during the new moon (and ovulate during the full moon) and are considered to be on a White Moon Cycle.

These women often have a natural desire for motherhood or nurturing. They're often more fertile and described as nurturing and motherly.

Red Moon Cycle

Those who cycle during the full moon (and ovulate during the new moon) are considered to be on a Red Moon Cycle.

These women often have a natural desire for healing or creativity. They're often described as healers, artists, or wise women who are often inspired, adventurous, and passionate about guiding others.

The Fractal of the Season and Cycles

A fractal is a self-similar repeating pattern, and we see the pattern of seasonal energy through days, months, and years.

We experience four main seasons throughout the year: winter, spring, summer, and autumn. Yet the principles and energies of these seasons are repeated every 24 hours as well. For menstruating women, the season's energy is also tied to our monthly cycle.

Winter's energy is a time of lowest light (overcast skies in their season, new moon during the month, and darkness every night). This is a time for rest, contemplation, introspection, and a quiet place to shed what's no longer needed and to form plans for the future. For many women, the quiet darkness of the new moon is a common time for the days of our period, when we shed the lining of our uterus and quietly prepare for the next season. Winter, night, and period days are best for relaxation, as our energy levels are low. Yet our brain's communication is high, so project planning, brainstorming and creativity are excellent choices at these times.

Spring brings the energy to implement those plans as renewal and growth take center stage during our cycle's follicular (pre-ovulation) phase. Spring, mornings, and pre-ovulation days are the perfect time for taking on big projects as we have more energy and rested resources ready to create.

Summer's energy is high and playful, a sign and celebration as we experience ovulation. Summer, noon, and ovulation days are fabulous times for being expressive, celebrating, and negotiating (because we typically have more confidence at these times).

Autumn ushers in a slower pace that prepares us for winter, a time of the luteal (pre-period) stage. Autumn, early evening, and pre-period are excellent times for organizing, as we're ready to let go of things that no longer serve us, and we have the clarity to get the job done.

These self-similar energetic patterns dramatically affect our day, months, and years. When we observe these patterns, we can anticipate and embrace the appropriate energies associated with each time of day, month, and year. Celebrating each season throughout these phases can enlighten and empower us mentally and physically.

When we take on tasks (like high-energy tasks during a low-energy cycle), we create additional exhaustion and stress on ourselves.

How To Sync Your Cycle With the Moon

If you're tracking your cycle (see charts below) and noticing you're not regularly in sync with the moon, there are ways to change that.

By reducing exposure to unnatural light, EMFs, hormone disruptors, and toxic impurities in our food and water, along with increasing our physical connection to the earth, adding quiet time with God, eating fresh living food (including good oils), getting exercise, spending time in nature and utilizing the light from the sun and the moon, we can return toward our natural state, connected God, His nature, and the healing properties of His creation.

“Our surroundings are more than a pretty picture; they're energetic batteries that recharge our cells to encourage health and stimulate our souls to see God more clearly."

Let's take a close look at each of these.

Light Syncing

Light is the key to an abundance of health imbalances but also restored healing.

Sorry, night owls, but there's no such thing. Sleeping while the sun is up and staying awake through the night is a cause and a symptom of severe health imbalances. And without correction, will ripple exponentially more significant imbalances in your health.

Similar to men, our bodies cycle with the sun each year (through the seasons) and each day (through our circadian rhythm). But women (especially menstruating women) have an additional rhythm that syncs our bodies to the moon cycle. Though we may not think of the moon's light much, if we remove our artificial lights, we'd see a dramatic difference between a full moon night and a no (or new) moon night.

Interestingly, in Biblical times (when their bodies were more in tune with nature), our years were based on a lunar (moon) calendar rather than the sun (a solar calendar, like we use today). God is light, and we're made in His image. So, it makes sense (and now we're confirming) that every cell in our body is influenced by light!

How you expose your eyes and skin to light influences every cell in your body. Generally, I try to go to bed when it's dark and wake up with the sun.

I get direct morning and evening sunlight on my skin as often as possible. Light is energy for our cells, and it makes a bigger difference than almost anything else we do for our health! During winter, I do morning and evening red light therapy sessions. As important as it is to get the first and last hour of sunlight on my skin, it's just as important to block damaging blue light from man-made lighting every day, all year long (especially from my eyes).

Reduce EMFs and Hormone Disruptors

I try to turn off and put away my electronic devices two hours before bed, so my body can transition (like the sunset) as it relaxes each evening and prepares for sleep.

Throughout my daily practice, I also avoid using the microwave, never sleep in the same room with a cell phone, and turn off or unplug any device that isn't currently needed.

Pure Food and Water

Anything that comes in a box, bag, or can is processed. While completely eliminating these isn't likely, we can reduce our exposure to them while increasing our intake of organic, whole, living foods, like fruits and vegetables.

Beyond quality, timing is critical. Typically, I don't eat late at night (usually not after 7 PM). That way, instead of my body focusing on digestion, it can use its energy detoxing while I'm sleeping (as it should). Eliminating toxins is a critical part of health.

Stay hydrated. We're as much as 75% water for a plethora of reasons, so staying hydrated allows our bodies to function far better than when we're dehydrated. Water can be one of the most frequent toxins we encounter. Personally, I never drink or even shower in tap water that's not been filtered and purified.

Earthing & Quiet Time with God

If you're not physically touching the earth with your bare skin on a regular basis (preferably every day), then you're missing out on exponential health and healing blessings. God created the earth as a batter for every one of our cells. It works not only to discharge the bad energy from our cells but the raw, clean soil charges us with energy as well.

Adding quiet time with God while my feet are touching the earth enhances my experience significantly. This can be anything from God-focused meditation with deep breathing, prayer, or a Bible study with my feet on the ground. The best way to begin the day is well-grounded... spiritually and physically.

Good Oils

Flax, Olive, Avocado Oils, Cod liver and Omega-3 oils are currently my favorite good fats. They're critical for brain and organ health, along with balancing hormones (especially as we age, ladies -- these good fats and oils are essential!).

Getting all of these oils in each day can be daunting (I aim for a total of 5 tablespoons per day of the combined oils). To accomplish my goal, I enjoy a morning smoothie containing a few of these to get my day started. Here's my smoothie recipe.

Exercise and Spending Time in God's Nature

Exercise is also critical to keeping us healthy and well-regulated. When possible, I enjoy doing my workouts outside.

Spending time in nature, meandering a forest trail, provides exceptional healing possibilities. Whenever we see more of God, we're always better off for it. Blessings abound in the nature of God's creation.

Give Yourself Grace

In today's world, not every cycle will fall precisely on the full moon or the new moon. And that's okay.

When you notice these shifts, ask yourself if there's something different going on in your schedule or your life.

You may naturally shift toward a full or new moon cycle during different times in your life. Notice if that feels stronger for you at this time. Give thanks for the change and notice the new pattern emerge. Over time, you're likely to cycle more often on one than another, making that your dominant pattern.
