Easy and convenient for a busy day, perfect for emergencies too.
The current food shortages are only a taste of what's to come. There are two upcoming events than seem to be inevitable. 1. Economic collapse and 2. Food wars. It's only a matter of time for both. Are you prepared?
Certainly we won't become unaffected, but every small step now may be an enormous blessing in your future. Our food supply chains are changing, dramatically. This is already in motion. The overarching message from those in governmental power is the public doesn't need to stock up. Yet each state (some more openly than others) is doing exactly the opposite. Did you know that your state has been stockpiling food, literally filling warehouses from floor to ceiling, for nearly five months now? Do they know something the average American doesn't? Absolutely.
“Are you and your family prepared? Do you have enough food for a month? What about six months or more?”
Only a few short years ago (and for as long as I have memory before that) the standard government recommendation was for every family to have a 72 hour supply of food and water in case of emergencies. A few years ago that changed to a minimum of a two week supply of food and water (and anything else you might need during that time). That's an increase of almost five times the supplies. That means the government, emergency services, and anyone else you think is coming to save you, may be delayed by two weeks. You're on your own until then.
Information and Preparation are Power
I tell you these things not to create fear, but to give you the power and opportunity to take action. Fear is for those not prepared. I don't want you to be one of them. When the power goes out for four days, I want you to smile and say "We've got this!".
There are all kinds of ways to be prepared for food wars, astronomical food prices, and food shortages. A few ideas include having a garden (a square foot garden is my personal recommendation - see my blog post), storing canned goods, stocking your freezer with food, and storing long-term freeze dried foods are just a few ideas.
For this post, well focus on freezer meals. I came across a movement called "Fill Your Freezer in Four Weeks". The idea is to make as many meals as you want during a single week for four weeks. The first week you'll focus on breakfast, the second week lunch, the third week dinner and the fourth week snacks.
This is not only helpful in case of an emergency, but also for when you're busy, sick, sleep in or you just don't feel like making dinner after a long day. Pull something from the freezer and you're ready to go!
Put It Into Practice
Need some inspiration? There are plenty of fabulous YouTube videos about making freezer meals, here's one that inspired me, Fill Your Freezer In Four Weeks. While I don't eat much processed food, my recipes will be different, but her principals are excitement are fantastic! Use your own ideas and recipes that work for your family. Take pleasure in knowing you're doing something fabulous for your family. Have fun.
